Technical Tuesday: This week, we are talking about some common handgun malfunctions that we hear from our customers. One that we see often, especially with P80 builds, is a “nose up” malfunction, in which the round doesn’t feed properly and ends up jammed in a nose up position.
It can be tricky to troubleshoot the P80, so be sure to watch our video above. We’ll look at how this malfunction happens, what can cause it, and a few ideas for fixing the issue.
If you are in the market for a polymer 80 kit, try out our P80 Frame Completion Kit with Shadow Systems Elite Trigger.
Hopefully, this can help you with identifying malfunctions on your own, but of course, give us a call at (469) 458- 6808 with any questions. We are always happy to help!
hello, watched the video. Our 920 has no issues, but our 918 elite has this issue not during firing only on using the slide release chambering the 1st round.
Any ideas on what we can do?
Hi Taeho, Can you please give our Technical Manager, Richie, a call when you have a chance? (469) 343-6831
I have the same issue as well with the slide release chambering the first round with my 920.
Nicholas, please email my Technical Manager at support@shadowsystemscorp.com
My MR918 does the same thing. It FTF when releasing the slide. I f there’s a kit or something that would fix this issue I need it like Dennis and Dee Reynolds need crack.
Hi Joseph, please email my Technical Manager at support@shadowsystemscorp.com
I just bought an MR920, and went out this weekend. I am also having issues with a nose up jam. Have about 200 rounds through it so far.
Hi Colin, please email our technical service team if these issues persist. They can be reached at support@shadowsystemscorp.com and are typically responsive within 1-2 business days.
I have a customer that has a MR and DR920. Both are experiencing nose up jams with some less expensive ammo (maxxtech). The DR is doing it on a more regular basis. When the jam happens the slide appeared to not be short cycling as it is fully behind the round (not in front of the rim). Suggestions on what to try next. Didn’t want to polish the feed ramp before running it by you guys.
Polishing the feed ramp might help, but it is likely due to the bad ammo. Is this issue happening with any other ammo? If so, please contact my Technical Support Team at support@shadowsystemscorp.com
My g19 compatible P80 worked flawlessly from the first shot. For real, zero issues! I was firing 145gr FMJs. But when I loaded it with 115gr FMJs it just turned into a piece of trash. I also had just installed a bullet forward extended slide release lever.
Before I go through the process of finding and replacing my old SRL, what are the odds on the lighter bullets being the sole issue?
Also, sometimes after 1 or 2 shots that seem normal the following trigger pull will release a couple rounds fully auto then jam.
Tymyddeus, That SHOULD NOT be happening EVER! Please contact my Technical Team as soon as possible. support@shadowsystemscorp.com
