Technical Tuesday – CR920 Issue Solved

Over the last few weeks, we have seen several comments on social media related to feeding issues with CR920 pistols. This took us by surprise as we did not see any of this in our testing or law enforcement testing of the product. Getting to the bottom of this has been a huge priority, and we have been on a quest for answers since this first appeared.
We can now say with confidence that the issue is isolated to early production CR920 barrels. These barrels included a machined feature we referred to here as the “butt” (when you see the picture you will understand). Our study of this problem showed that these barrels could produce inconsistent feeding results with some ammunition, particularly if the feature was at the outer edges of the tolerance. In this video, we give you the full story on the feature, why it was added, and why we eliminated it when we improved our bronze coating.
It is important to understand that these barrels are not a safety risk of any kind—this is purely related to ensuring the gun feeds a wide array of ammunition. In fact, the vast majority of “butt” barrels are functioning fine. Our sales team still has them in demo guns, many test guns still have them, and ironically, my personal CR920 also has one. But with that said, some people are having legitimate feeding issues and that’s not okay.
What we decided to do was send a replacement, current production barrel to anyone who has a “butt” barrel. In order to keep you armed, we are not asking you to send back the entire gun. Instead, we will send you a new barrel first, include a return label, and ask that you return the old barrel on the honor system.
Here’s how this works:
  1. Send an email to barrel@shadowsystemscorp.com
  2. Put your serial number in the subject line
  3. Put your name and full address in the body of the email
  4. Attach ONE image showing both the serial number plate on the gun and your “butt” barrel
  5. Allow 2-4 weeks for us to ship you a new barrel (during this time, you can certainly keep shooting the “butt” barrel!)
Again, we are beyond bummed that some of you have had issues with your guns. We appreciate you allowing us to ensure every CR920 in the field meets our standards.

You just had me send in the entire gun for this issue?! Hope I get an elite back because I’m losing faith in this company. Also where and how can I get a 13 round magazine? Been 3 months and still can’t find them.

    Hi there,
I’m writing from Canada and I’ve purchased my first handgun today. A MR920 Elite bronze barrel. Anyhow I’ve stumbled upon this blog post here and I wanted to give you all props for the way you are handling the feeding issue with the DR920 butt barrel. The Mr920 Elite is a nice looking and comfortable firearm by the way. (Remember I’m in Canada so buying a handgun and receiving it is weeks apart. Looking forward to bringing this beauty out to the range. ) Cheers.

Just got mine back with the new barrel and it’s still FTL. I’m thinking it’s more than a barrel issue.

Hi Josh, please email my Technical Team at support@shadowsystemscorp.com with details about the issue you’re seeing so they can help diagnose and fix the problem.

  4. Hello,
I just put a CR920 compact on layaway due to the cost and saw your “butt barrel” video after. The first reason I purchased your handgun was due to the handgun being made in the US, the front sites, and the feel in my smaller hands. After watching your video I am really glad that I am purchasing your handgun and I can’t wait to tell everyone that your company understands about customer service. It is my plan that once I pay the gun off is to get a red dot.

I am looking right now for a good holster for the CR920, but it always takes me a while to find what I am looking for since I only get holsters that are good level 2 holsters.

I will keep coming back to your website so that I can get two more 13 round magazines.

I also plan to do a video of the CR920 when I get the handgun home. I will keep you posted on that. My YouTube channel is “Coco’s Cyber Lounge.” It is also my plan to add you to my Facebook page.

Have a great day & keep up the great work,
    Colleen Carter

No, that sight is specific to the Glock MOS cut.

This video is one of the many reasons that I continue to purchase Shadow Systems handguns. Technical Tuesdays are the bomb. They help me to understand what the company is doing, and how I should use their products. Totally trustworthy company!

My new CR920 Elite fired it’s first 200 1190 FPS FMJs today with zero issues. Hands down, it’s the most fun I’ve had with a micro-compact to date.

Mine has the newer style barrel and still fails to feed. I’ve tried 115 and 147 grain fmj and jhp rounds through multiple brands and it does it with both. Gun is as clean as they get and I’m a very experienced shooter and gun owner. I’m trading mine in on another Glock. I can count on them.

I have had feeding issues twice on the range with my XR920. Shawdow systems hands down is the best shooting pistol on the market. Better than Glock . Glock willnt shoot with shawdow sytem . Shawdow system you shoot tight groups every time .

I’d buy one, but I want it for EDC. I can’t afford to die while you figure out how to cycle rounds.

  11. Christopher Kern says:

Does this cover XR920? I am having the same issue and just purchased mine last week.

    1. Jessica Roe says:

Christopher, this issue was specific to the CR920. If you are having issues with your XR920, please email my Technical Team so they can get the issue diagnosed and fixed for you: support@shadowsystemscorp.com
